E46 M3 CSL vs. E30 M3 3.2 vs. ...

I was flicking through an old copy (Jun ’05) of Performance BMW at the weekend. They did a feature on speed tests that they ran at Bruntingthorpe Airfield in the UK using proper timing gear. Below are the more relevant E30 figures. I also included the numbers for the 320iS & M3 CSL for comparison. It makes for interesting reading, particularly at the moment when so many fellas on here are doing engine conversions!


M3 CSL – standard engine with some suspension & brake mods
3.2L E30 M3- fairly standard apart from the 6cyl engine.
3.2L 318iS - stripped out lightweight machine (see cover shot above!)!
320iS - semi stripped & caged, standard engine.

resumé: kdo nepotřebuje auto s luxusem,vystačí si s E30 a ušetří. A kdyby chtěl být být přece jenom rychlejší než CSL mohl by šáhnout po 3,2 z E46 a implantovat do E30.
